What to see and do in Benalmádena
If we think of Benalmádena, almost everyone thinks of its fantastic marina, but here we will find much more, the relaxed life of a typical Andalusian village and many curiosities in a few square kilometers. We will show you what you can see and do in Benalmádena during your summer holidays.
Benalmádena is divided into 3 main areas. In the upper part is Benalmádena Pueblo, a typical white Andalusian village, and Arroyo de la Miel, a lively residential area. Below we find Benalmádena Costa and its renowned beaches, one of the most active tourist spots on the Costa del Sol.
In Benalmádena Costa we can find the emblematic sport port, called Puerto Marina. A beautiful place that has been inaugurated in 1979, and which has been a great reference in the nautical sports.
The port is also the leisure and entertainment centre of Benalmádena, with numerous restaurants, bars, terraces, shops of all kinds, shopping centres and we cannot forget the Sea Life, which attracts a large number of tourists every year.
On the other hand, at about 300 meters high, situated on a hill, is the old town of Benalmádena. The best thing is to let yourself go and walk through its narrow streets where the white of its houses is combined with the flowers that decorate its balconies. Right in the centre, we can find its church and a spectacular viewpoint with a panoramic view of the whole Costa del Sol.
Another option to know what to see and do in Benalmádena is to visit the Tívoli fair. An amusement park for all the public in Benalmádena. As well as attractions it offers a wide range of shows and entertainment in general, with theme bars and restaurants. Without forgetting its cable car that connects the town of Arroyo de la Miel with the top of Monte Calamorro, in the Sierra de Mijas, at more than 700 m altitude, from where you can see Africa on clear days.
Another curiosity is, for example, the largest Buddhist temple in the West. The Enlightenment Stupa was built in 2003 and created as a monument to peace, prosperity and harmony in the world. It is a good place to relax and meditate, has a height of 33m and beautiful views of the city.
Very close to this temple is the Benalmádena Butterfly Farm. In a Thai temple you can walk among more than 1500 exotic butterflies from all over the world that fly free in a tropical paradise among waterfalls and flowers.
We can also visit the Colomares Castle, a modern work built by a surgeon who was in love with architecture and history and dedicated all his efforts and money to make this original castle dedicated to the Discovery of America and Christopher Columbus. It is a nice visit for its originality and for seeing the beautiful gardens that surround it.
Last but not least, what to see and do in Benalmádena, visit its beautiful beaches. We highlight among all of them the Beach of Bil Bil with the beautiful Castle of Bil Bil in the background, the Beach of Santa Anna bordered by the Paseo Marítimo, the Beach of the Melilleros with its famous wave that arrives at sunset and all the surfers are waiting, the Beach of the Tajo de la Soga, and the beach of the Viborilla for the lovers of nudism.
