Málaga is Christmas

luces malaga

As every year, for the Christmas season, Malaga and mainly Calle Larios are decorated with an endless number of Christmas lights, where we can all enjoy its beautiful light and sound show, this time with a different theme, Christmas Forest.

On Friday 29th November the Christmas lighting in Malaga has started. The spectacle of light and sound so characteristic of Larios Street will be seen for 37 days (until January 5) and this year (as they did in the previous) will be repeated three times a day. The passes will take place at 18:30, 20:00 and 21:30.

For its part, the lighting will be decorated with four musical themes in each of their passes:

All I want for Christmas is you’ by María Carey, ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ by Hilary Duff, ‘En Navidad’ by the OT Academy with Rosana and ‘Never Back Down’ (Battlecry) by Sofia Session Orchestra & Choir.

This year a total of 22 arches will be installed along Calle Larios with 1000 strands of 12 metre LED lights, fastened with 44 concrete structures. This structure will support a Christmas forest full of leaves, suns and angels that will offer a totally Christmas atmosphere.

But beyond the street Larios, the historic center of the capital also has other essential points in which to enjoy Christmas shows. As a novelty this year, the Alcazaba has become the setting for a ‘videomapping’ in which a Christmas story is projected. It also has three daily passes: at 6.45 pm, 8.00 pm and 9.30 pm.

La Alameda joins this year’s Christmas shows in the centre of Malaga with ‘El árbol encantado’ (The Enchanted Tree), created by Fireflyevents with a duration of five minutes. The show can be seen at 19:15, 21 and 22:15 hours, from Friday 29 November to Thursday 5 January, and will be projected on one of the oldest trees in the city, a ficus centenary with 30 meters of wingspan.

Antonio Banderas from Malaga was in charge of turning on the lighting on Friday 29 November. The opening ceremony began at 6 pm and, in addition to seeing the lights for the first time, attendees were able to enjoy a completely free concert by Blas Cantó, who will be Spain’s representative in Eurovision 2020.

On the other hand, on the same Friday there was a show aimed especially at the children of the house by the hand of Peneque El Valiente. The performance was in the Plaza de las Flores from 18 hours.
